A visit to Kundasang Sabah would not be complete without stop at Desa Dairy Farms, which is located at the Mesilau Plateau with majestic view of Mount Kinabalu as background. So, during our vacation in Kundasang last week, we stopped at this place.
Desa Dairy Farms is not too far from Kundasang town. Only 15-20 minutes drive. If you are on the way to Mesilau Nature Park/Golf Resort, you will be able to see the entrance and a big signboard on the left. However, if you do decide to drive your own car to getting there, you are strongly recommended to make sure your car brakes in good condition because the road are steep and a little challenging. A pretty good car and a skilled driver are needed.
Based on the info that I read, the farm is managed by Desa Cattle. Most of the milking cows are Friesians and producing daily average of 14 liters high quality milk per cow. Friesians are the highest milk producers of all dairy cattle breeds and are most popular temperate breed worldwide. The milk contains a special pleasing balance of cream, proteins, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals.
To enter the farm, all visitors (international or local visitors) are required to pay RM3/adult & RM2/children entrance fee. Open daily from 8.00a.m. to 5.00p.m. Visitors can take the guided tour through the modern operational dairy
factory everyday at 3.00pm - 5.00pm and processing of milk every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 10.00am - 2.00pm.
So for visitors who came to Kundasang, you can also visiting Desa Dairy Farm because it's provides good education for children even adults to understand how fresh milk is being processed. In short, see the cow milking process is a valuable experience to those who visit there.
