Beautiful View of Kuching City

Today, I will share with you my experience during our visit to Kuching, Sarawak. It was my first visit there. Luckily, one of my nephew working here so he told us there are many places of interest in Kuching City, including the Kuching Waterfront, Chinese Museum, Main Bazaar and another historical buildings.

Kuching Waterfront
To reach the place we do not need a vehicle, because it not far from hotel where our stay that night. Located at along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in downtown Kuching Selatan. There are a number of food stalls, restaurants and benches in Waterfront. While walking through the sidewalk, we can enjoy the excellent views and uniqueness of the Sarawak river.

Main Bazaar
We continue to walk through the Kuching Waterfront until to a place known as Kuching Main Bazaar by locals, located at along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. We are told this place is the most visited place in town as it is the number one place to shop for souvenirs and handicrafts. We bought a few souvenirs here to take home.

Historical Buildings
Kuching City is not just an interesting place but also has a unique history. Here is the place where the English adventurer James Brooke first landed. Starting with a few leaves of the building roof and then turns into a busy port with warehouses and wharves. Kuching has a number of notable historic buildings which are well worth a visit.

One of the most prominent is the Astana. Astana building is located across the Sarawak River which has its own romantic history. He is actually three separate buildings combined into one. The second Rajah, Charles Brooke, build this palace in 1870 as a gift to his wife, 'Ranee Margaret'. This building has been renovated and used as official residence of the Governor of Sarawak. However, because the place is across the river, we were not able to visit there.

Square Tower is a heritage structure on the Kuching Waterfront. Originally, it was used as a prison, and it even had dungeons. Then, it was turned into a fortress, and even into a dance hall.

Another historical building is The old Courthouse, which sits in between Carpenter Street and India Street, has undergone restoration and now houses the Sarawak Tourism Board. The building has a unique look from the outside.

Hotels
There are many best known hotels, resorts, service apartments, motels, inns and chalets in Kuching City from luxury to budget price. Harbour View Hotel is one of the few business class hotels in Kuching strategically located at the frontier of Kuching’s Golden Triangle.

We stay in the Harbour View Hotel Kuching that night. This hotel features 245 newly refurbished rooms and suites. Each room comes with a satellite TV and an in-room internet port. There is also WiFi access, a business centre inclusive of secretarial and Internet services, as well as an extensive conference hall with banquet facilities.

Another one is Hilton Hotel. This central Kuching hotel rises up impressively from the picturesque Sarawak River and commands captivating views over the city. However, we did not stay in there so I could not write more about it.

Overall, there are a number of interesting places to visit around Kuching City and of course we are really enjoyed being here.
