Tip of Borneo: Tanjung Simpang Mengayau Kudat

Last week, my family and I had visited one of the most popular tourist spots in North Sabah, called Tanjung Simpang Mengayau. The Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, (or also known as Tip of Borneo), is located 40 kilometres to the northwest of Kudat town in the state of Sabah, Malaysia.

Traveling from our home to Tip of Borneo is not too far. It only takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to arrive. However, if you come from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah capital city, you need to take about 3 hours and 30 minutes drive to get here.
Tip of Borneo

This place was named as such because it is a place in the northern most tip of Borneo Island. In the ‘Rungus’ ethnic language; Tanjung Simpang Mengayau originally known as the Tanjung Sampang Mangazo. 'Tanjung' means the end, tip or cape; 'sampang' is a junction and 'mangazo’, would mean war. Thus, according to what I read on one of the signs that available here. The tip is the meeting point of Sulu and South China Sea. While the Simpang Mengayau means 'lingering junction' as it is here that the South China Sea lingers and meets the Sulu Seas flowing from the east.

The tip of Borneo is not only to attract tourists who wish to enjoy the beautiful scenery but also the place for photography enthusiasts to create the best pictures, especially for landscapes and star trail. This place also is often used as on-location filming several movies and video clips of local artists

At the top of the hill there is a flagpole, the bronze globe and the rocky outcrop that forms the "Tip of Borneo". The globe is a marks the location of Tanjung Simpang Mengayau at latitude 7 degrees north and longitude 116 degrees east. A map featuring the island of Borneo is embossed in bronze and laid on a flat surface at an angle with inscriptions to mark the Tip of Borneo.

Visitors do not have to worry about food when they are here because there is also a cafe, souvenir shop, washrooms and coconut stall. As well as to those who want to stay here. There are several resorts and home stays. It’s very reasonable price.

The Pulau Kalampunian lighthouse is a reminder of treacherous coastline and past shipwrecks.

On the left is Pantai Kalampunian (Kalampunian Beach). The beach has beautiful beaches with white sand.

Before heading back, we enjoyed the stunning view during sunset.

For visitors who come from far and want to stay here, I suggest you book well ahead of your holiday so you can spend your days having fun, not wasting your time looking for things to do. There are two options available. Overnight at resort at Tip of Borneo (Tip of Borneo Resort and Tampat Do Aman Jungle Camp) or at Kudat Town (Kudat Golf and Marina Resort and Ria Hotel). Check out the hotel list using the search box beside.
